Sign Language Interpretation

Sign Language Interpretation

Sign language interpretation is the activity of translating and interpreting Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) to and from Portuguese.

For this, the Sign Language interpreter is a professional with specific training to perform this activity, essential to ensure access to information and communication for deaf or hearing-impaired individuals.

The Sign Language interpreter must have command of both languages, Libras and Portuguese, and be able to understand the nuances of both.

The work of the Sign Language interpreter can be carried out in different contexts, such as:

  • Education: classes, lectures, and school meetings;
  • Health: medical consultations, examinations, and hospitalizations;
  • Justice: hearings, trials, and detentions;
  • Work: meetings, training, and presentations.

To meet these needs, our Libras interpreters study to stay attentive to the context in which they are working and the needs of the people involved in the interaction.
